I am blessed to work in a profession that over the course of a couple years can change someone’s image of themselves so dramatically. Seeing their confidence improve and their personality shine—that’s what it is all about! We are all connected, and I hope that is some way, our patients experience with us can help them on their journey to success.
The best part of my day is hearing about all the fantastic activities and experiences our patients share with us. Being in small communities like Traverse City and Charlevoix, getting to know our patients and families is really getting to know our town. I love feeling connected to them and their journey. Orthodontics allows me to develop relationships while creating smiles, and that’s awesome.
Education and Continuing Education
I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Kalamazoo College in Biology. I attended the University of Michigan School Of Dentistry for my Doctorate of Dental Surgery and Masters of Science in Orthodontics.
I am passionate about getting better, every day. I try to grow a little daily, to do things differently. Through continuing education, I get to grow professionally as well. I am always looking for ways to make our treatment results better in less time for the maximum patient comfort and benefit. That includes making our orthodontic team the best they can be through education and using the latest clinically-proven techniques for success.
I personally attend the Annual Session of the American Association of Orthodontists in the spring as well as regional seminars in the fall and winter. I frequent continuing education seminars at the University of Michigan as well as local dental education through the Resort District Dental Society.

Outside the Office
I grew up in Battle Creek, MI, the third of four children, son of a High School Administrator and Christian Youth Minister. I have lived in Traverse City since 2003. I love living in Northern Michigan for the great community spirit, its natural beauty, and endless activities.
I am married to Kara, and we have two daughters and a son, not to mention our cat and five fish. It’s a busy household, but spending time with my family is my number-one priority.
When I’m not in the office or at home, my favorite thing to do is downhill skiing with my family in winter. I also like to golf and spend time on the lake in the summer. I love football! In the fall, I am very busy as a football coach for my son’s team. Coaching is a great way to share life lessons in a fun environment.
In the Community
I believe it is important to give back to the community that has given us so much. My team and I encourage our youth to be active scholastically and physically to prepare them for healthy, happy lives. We support many local causes through donation of time and sponsorship, including:
- Local high school sports and music programs
- Big Brothers, Big Sisters
- Habitat for Humanity

- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- Disabled American Veterans
